Top MLB DFS Plays for 7-27-16

It's hump day here at TIR Baseball, and we're bringing you our picks for the top DFS choices on the day. We go through stats and matchups to bring you the best advice and suggestions every day, and today is no different. There is a full slate of 15 games today, and six of them are happening before the evening schedule, so there are plenty of contests to choose from and plenty of variations to them. As always, check your lineups before they lock so that you don't get any automatic goose eggs for your team. As of writing there aren't any games with a high chance of rainout, but always be diligent. Let's get right into the suggestions!

Game times:

12:10 PM EST: Phillies at Marlins
12:10 PM EST: Nationals at Indians
12:37 PM EST: Padres at Blue Jays
01:35 PM EST: Tigers at Red Sox
03:10 PM EST: Rays at Dodgers
03:45 PM EST: Reds at Giants
07:05 PM EST: Rockies at Orioles
07:05 PM EST: Mariners at Pirates
07:10 PM EST: Cardinals at Mets
08:05 PM EST: White Sox at Cubs
08:05 PM EST: Athletics at Rangers
08:10 PM EST: Diamondbacks at Brewers
08:10 PM EST: Braves at Twins
08:10 PM EST: Yankees at Astros
08:15 PM EST: Angels at Royals

Pitchers: Madison Bumgarner is back at home against the Reds, and honestly it doesn't really matter who he's facing, he's almost always a solid option. Brandon McCarthy has been elite since his return from Tommy John surgery, and though I don't like to put a lot of stock in guys just coming off of that kind of injury, he's still a great option. Especially against the punchless Rays. Matt Shoemaker looks to continue the awesomeness that was started by Tyler Skaggs yesterday, and shut out the Royals. He's actually been solid this year and I think today could be a bargain. I can't quit Gerrit Cole, and with the price this low he's worth the gamble. Archie Bradley gets the nod today against the Brewers, and that means that he should be able to continue his good run lately. The jury is still out on him, but don't forget that he was a top prospect very recently.

Player Draft Kings FanDuel
Bumgarner $13,200 $11,800
McCarthy $10,800 $8,000
Shoemaker $10,400 $8,500
Cole $8,100 $8,500
Bradley $7,700 $6,500

Catchers: Brian McCann gets to take his hacks in Colorado today against the righty Chad Bettis, and that means the power should be on display. I like his odds anyway. Evan Gattis is always a power threat, and he's got a decent matchup against Adam Wainwright today. And Jonathan Lucroy may be facing Johnny Cueto, but he's super cheap and super talented, I'll take a risk on him and see what happens.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
McCann$4,800$3,800
Gattis$3,800$3,000
Lucroy$3,200$2,700

1st Base: I like Joey Votto's chances against the righty Bud Norris of the Braves. He's not very good, and though Votto is struggling he still has plenty of potential. Sonny Gray has struggled quite a bit this season, and today he's facing the Rangers, so that makes Mitch Moreland a decent acquisition. He's currently day-to-day, but if he gets back in the lineup, Victor Martinez has had quite the career against Chris Sale, going 18-36 against him with 4 homers. That's a nice matchup that you would never have guessed.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Votto$4,400$3,500
Moreland$3,700$3,500
V. Martinez$3,700$2,800

2nd Base: I like Deejay D.J. LeMahieu hitting in Colorado against Ivan Nova a lot today. Of course Brian Dozier going against the lefty Hector Santiago of the Angels is also a nice matchup, and the price is reasonable. Devon Travis is slowly coming around, and today he's facing Jeremy Hellickson, so that's good news for him at a good cost.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
LeMahieu$4,600$3,700
Dozier$4,100$3,500
Travis$3,500$2,700

3rd Base: Josh Donaldson against Jeremy Hellickson is another one of those drool-worthy matchups, and I'll be buying hi a lot today. The Toddfather finds himself in a nice position today against Mike Pelfrey, and he's also reasonably priced. Get Todd Frazier on the teams you can. Yangervis Solarte is back and finds himself facing off against the lefty Justin Nicolino. It's for that reason that he's a good option today.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Donaldson$4,900$4,200
Frazier$4,200$3,200
Solarte$3,400$2,700

Shortstop: Trevor Story hit one a long ways yesterday, and I expect more of the same today at home against Ivan Nova. Manny Machado has a pretty reasonable cost out there today, and he's facing the Red Sox knuckleballer Wright. So that means anything could happen and I'll take the gamble with him. Zack Cozart is pretty cheap, and playing against Bud Norris so he's a solid option too.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Story$5,300$3,400
Machado$3,100$4,000
Cozart$4,500$3,300

Outfield: Mookie Betts is already 4-12 with 2 homers against the young Kevin Gausman, and though I like Gausman's future, I'll put the odds in favor of the Red Sox today. Betts is costly, but worth the price. Charlie Blackmon is another good pick as he leads off against the Yankees and Ivan Nova in Colorado today. The rule of $5k is in effect today, as Mike Trout costs less than that magic number and is facing a bad pitcher in Tyler Duffey today. Jay Bruce is facing Bud Norris, and he just keeps on raking. I like Yoenis Cespedes to get it going against the lefty Jeff Locke today too. Cowboy Kole Calhoun had a nice game yesterday, and figures to do the same today against Tyler Duffey. Khris Davis faces a lefty today, and each day he's getting further away from that injury he had earlier and getting stronger. I like him today for sure. On the cheap end I do like Rajai Davis today, even though he's facing the righty Ian Kennedy. He could have a nice day at the dish.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Betts$5,600$4,700
Blackmon$5,100$4,100
Trout$4,700$4,100
Bruce$4,500$4,100
Cespedes$4,300$3,700
Calhoun$4,100$3,200
K. Davis$3,700$3,600
R. Davis$3,300$3,600

Top MLB DFS Plays for 7-26-16

Good morning and happy Tuesday to all of our DFS fans out there. Today promises to be an action packed day, as there are a full 15 games on the schedule... plus a double-header game! Of course your contests will only utilize one of the two Cardinals-Mets games, so make sure you know which one it is before you pick players in that contest. As of writing it looks like we will avoid the dreaded PPD bug, so you should be able to set lineups without fear today. However I always preach diligence, so double check before lineups lock so that you won't miss out on anyone. Let's get right to the picks after the schedule!

Game times:

04:10 PM EST: Cardinals at Mets
07:05 PM EST: Rockies at Orioles
07:05 PM EST: Mariners at Pirates
07:07 PM EST: Padres at Blue Jays
07:10 PM EST: Cubs at White Sox
00:71 PM EST: Tigers at Red Sox
07:10 PM EST: Phillies at Marlins
07:10 PM EST: Nationals at Indians
08:05 PM EST: Athletics at Rangers
08:10 PM EST: Diamondbacks at Brewers
08:10 PM EST: Braves at Twins
08:10 PM EST: Yankees at Astros
08:15 PM EST: Angels at Royals
10:10 PM EST: Rays at Dodgers
10:15 PM EST: Reds at Giants

Pitchers: As absurd as it sounds, Steven Wright continues to be an elite option. And today against the Tigers he's actually the top option. I also like Danny Salazar against the Nationals. He's scuffled a bit as of late, but he's really good and strikes out a ton of batters. Going against Bud Norris today in Los Angeles, the enigmatic righty Chris Archer is also a nice pickup, and the cost is pretty reasonable. Jared Eickhoff's turn in the rotation comes against the Marlins today, and though he hasn't done as well as many have hoped he's still a reasonable daily pick. And lastly, I'll give another nod to Patrick Corbin, even though he's done nothing but burn me this season. He has a nice matchup against Milwaukee, and he costs next to nothing.

Player Draft Kings FanDuel
Wright $10,700 $9,700
Salazar $9,500 $10,100
Archer $8,700 $8,400
Eickhoff $6,800 $7,900
Corbin $5,400 $6,400

Catchers: Batting in Chicago is an excellent matchup today for Wilson Ramos, so he's my top pick of the day. I also like Matt Wieters against Yordano Ventura. Ventura's star has largely faded and Wieters is having a solid year for the Os. Miguel Montero is facing a semi-injured Jared Eickhoff today in Philadelphia, and that means he's a solid pick for a cheap price.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Ramos$4,100$3,600
Wieters$3,800$3,100
Montero$3,100$2,500

1st Base: Paul Goldschmidt has finally been turning in some performances worthy of his lofty expectations, and today he's facing the mediocre lefty Matt Moore, and that should put him in a great position to succeed. I'll give Freddie Freeman the nod today despite the goose egg he put up for my team yesterday. He's facing Colin Rea which is good for any hitter. Alex Rodriguez is facing spot-starter David Huff for the Angels today in Yankee Stadium. He's a solid pick for either first or third, depending on eligibility in your contest.
PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Goldschmidt$5,100$4,000
Freeman$3,900$2,900
Rodriguez$3,500$3,400

2nd Base: Daniel Murphy is a top pick on the day, as he's facing Mat Latos in a really nice ballpark for hitters and has shown that his power game is for real. I like Jean Segura to put up a nice game today against Dallas Keuchel, who is largely pretty bad this season. Even lefty-lefty, Jason Kipnis is a good pick today since the price is so low, and the lefty he's facing is just awful. Wade Miley is that lefty.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Murphy$5,300$4,200
Segura$4,000$2,900
Kipnis$3,300$3,400

3rd Base: Josh Donaldson is already 1-3 with a homer in his career against the lefty Matt Boyd, and with his prodigious power that makes him a great play on the day. I like Anthony Rendon for the first time this year today against Mat Latos. He's had an underwhelming season, but still has raw talent and is a reasonable cost. Don't forget that A-Rod is a good option today at third as well.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Donaldson$4,900$4,000
Rendon$4,200$3,400
Rodriguez$3,500$3,400

Shortstop: I'm a big fan of Wade Miley, but only in the sense that I like opposing hitters that face him. Today that opposing hitter is Francisco Lindor. He's been solid and the price is reasonable for the matchup. Aledmys Diaz is also a solid bet against John Lamb of the Reds today. He's still putting up solid days at the dish and isn't really stopping. He may be facing Zack Grienke, but Brad Miller is still a solid option. Grienke hasn't quite been himself this year, and Miller is cheap and offers plenty of upside.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Lindor$4,400$3,900
Diaz$4,100$3,300
Miller$3,300$3,200

Outfield: Ian Desmond has been unbelievably good in the outfield for the Rangers, and today he's facing the struggling lefty Dallas Keuchel. That makes him a solid pick to flash some power. Bryce Harper should be able to at least flash some of that power today against Mat Latos. I know no one is pitching to him, but this is too good to pass up. Dexter Fowler still has nearly 10 points per game this year, and today is facing Jared Eickhoff at home. He's a solid bet and the price is reasonable for once. Marcell Ozuna has had a solid year at the dish, and gets the platoon advantage against Pat Dean today. Nomar Mazara had four hits yesterday and should be in line for more against the lefty today. I also like Carlos Beltran at home against lefty David Huff. He's had some rest days lately and should be fresh and good to go. Nelson Cruz's price is pretty cheap today, and he's facing a mediocre pitcher in Cody Anderson. He's definitely worth a gamble considering his power potential. Rajai Davis is always a good bet against a lefty, and he should be at the top of the order today against Wade Miley.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Desmond$5,000$3,700
Harper$4,800$4,000
Fowler$4,400$3,900
Ozuna$4,400$3,300
Mazara$4,000$3,000
Beltran$3,800$3,700
Cruz$3,600$4,100
R. Davis$3,400$3,000

We've combed through tons of information, matchups, data, and more to decide who is the best to pick on this short contest day, so that you don't have to do the hard work. It's an 11 game slate on the day today with all contests starting in the evening, so there will be plenty of players to choose from this evening. None of the games are currently at-risk of being rained out, so you really don't have that to contend with today either. So let's get right into the daily picks here after the schedule!

Game times:

07:05 PM EST: Rockies at Orioles
07:07 PM EST: Padres at Blue Jays
07:10 PM EST: Tigers at Red Sox
07:10 PM EST: Phillies at Marlins
07:10 PM EST: Cardinals at Mets
07:20 PM EST: Diamondbacks at Brewers
08:05 PM EST: Athletics at Rangers
08:10 PM EST: Cubs at White Sox
08:10 PM EST: Yankees at Astros
08:15 PM EST: Angels at Royals
10:15 PM EST: Reds at Giants

Pitchers: Jake Arrieta goes against the crosstown rival White Sox today, who currently sit in the bottom third of the majors in runs scored. He should have a nice game today and net some major points for his teams. Drew Pomeranz continues his torrid year with his new team the Boston Red Sox today, and though being at Fenway against a decent lineup like Detroit isn't the best matchup, he's still been pitching like a monster and there's no reason to think it stops right now. Anthony DeSclafini has really reinvented himself since the last month or so of last year, and he's gone from back of the rotation filler to solid #2 or 3 starter. He's reasonably priced, and playing in a ballpark that helps suppress runs in San Francisco. Ian Kennedy is at home against the Angels today, and though their offense has been better than expected, their not exactly one of the best hitting teams in the game right now. And finally, Braden Shipley represents yet another young, solid pitching prospect who has been called up to make his debut this season. He gets to take the hill against the Brewers, and his price means that he could be an excellent bargain.

Player Draft Kings FanDuel
Arrieta $12,400 $10,600
Pomeranz $10,300 $10,100
DeSclafini $9,300 $7,500
Kennedy $7,300 $8,000
Shipley $5,000 $5,700

Catchers: Stephen Vogt has gone 12-24 with a handful of homers over his last 7 contests, and today he's facing a guy who knows how to give up a home run ball in Mike Fiers. He's a solid bet on the day for sure. Wilson Contreras continues to nothing but hit in his rookie season, and tonight facing off against the left Steven Matz and his bone spur means his cost is lowered, though he should be able to keep it going. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is hitting today against the terrible Twins pitcher Ricky Nolasco, which should put him in line for a monster game.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Vogt$4,000$3,300
Contreras$3,800$3,100
Saltalamacchia$3,700$2,200

1st Base: Paul Goldschmidt is 2-6 in his brief exposure to Mike Bolsinger, and he's gradually getting back to the levels we expect from him. I like him a lot today and he's the top pick at the position. The lefty Matt Boyd is facing off against Jose Abreu today, and that's good news for Abreu owners. He's largely been disappointing this season, but still has some good power in that bat. Albert Pujos is 13-28 (.464!) against Ricky Nolasco in his career with three homers. Do what you will with that information.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Goldschmidt$5,100$4,400
Abreu$4,000$3,400
Pujols$3,600$3,300

2nd Base: Sean Manaea has been largely hit hard in his debut go-round in the majors, and today he faces the Rangers. I like Roughned Odor to do some damage today, and the price is pretty reasonable. Jason Kipnis is another solid option today against Edinson Volquez and the Royals. I like his odds for a nice day for sure. Joe Panik gets to face the Brewers' offseason acquisition Chase Anderson, and that means he should be good for a knock or two. I think your ceiling is pretty capped with Panik, but he can put up a few points here and there.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Odor$4,200$3,200
Kipnis$3,700$3,200
Panik$3,500$3,200

3rd Base: The Toddfather Todd Frazier should have a nice game in his future today, as he faces the lefty Matt Boyd of the Tigers. I like his odds anyway. Jake Lamb should be good to go today following what seems to be seeing a week's straight of left handers. I like him today as a good option against Bolsinger. Like his teammate Albert Pujols, Yunel Escobar has had nothing but success against Ricky Nolasco in his career. He's 14-34 and the price is great.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Frazier$4,900$3,400
Lamb$4,300$3,100
Escobar$3,400$3,000

Shortstop: Even facing Zack Grienke I'm a big fan of Corey Seager today. The kid is awesome and definitely worth the price. Zack Cozart gets to continue his reign of terror today against Aaron Blair of the Braves. He should net a few points for sure. Brandon Crawford has been largely forgettable this year, but the price is nice and he's facing a mediocre righty in Chase Anderson.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Seager$4,600$3,700
Cozart$3,600$3,200
Crawford$3,400$3,200

Outfield: Jay Bruce against Aaron Blair means that Bruce should have ample opportunities to hit the ball a long way. I like his odds. Mike Trout hasn't had quite the success against Ricky Nolasco as his teammates, but he's still 3-10 and reasonably cheap today. I like Bryce Harper again today, as he faces Kyle Hendricks (who admittedly is better than I thought), and could put up a decent day. David Peralta has been solid since coming off of the disabled list, and facing off against Mike Bolsinger puts him in a chance to succeed. I like Michael Saunders against Jared Eickhoff today, and the cost is fine. Speaking of fine cost, Ryan Braun is really cheap, and is facing Matt Cain. Yes please. Byron Buxton has been way better since his recent call up, and he's facing the homer prone Jered Weaver today. He's cheap and worth it. For the price, I like Joc Pederson as a high-risk homer bet, even against Zack Greinke. He's your cheap option for sure.

PlayerDraft KingsFanDuel
Bruce$4,900$3,900
Trout$4,700$4,300
Harper$4,500$3,900
Peralta$4,000$2,600
Saunders$3,900$3,600
Braun$3,900$3,700
Buxton$3,400$2,500
Pederson$3,100$2,800
